Around 80% Complete - Combat/Bestiary Remaining


Things are starting to get juicy, everybody so I wanted to give back and to hopefully generate some more buzz for this project! I just uploaded the latest beta which gets us through the third and most "game" heavy section of the text, The Broken Undercroft and primes us for the end of the zine, the light rules for Combat ahead of the Bestiary. Once finished, I believe this is going to put the manuscript at something like 60 pages.

Which is way too many. I'm not going to have the budget to pay for layout for a zine that large, nor to edit it, so I'm going to have to make some cuts. Many of the sections are overly wordy, so I'll start probably with cutting my descriptions down, and I'll also look into producing two zines, a more svelte Ashcan and a girthier Director's Cut edition. What exactly is going to be included in the "Final" version of Cavehaven at this point, from the Alpha documents I've had available for down isn't completely clear. I may omit virtually all of the "game" elements, including any mention of checks, stress, etc entirely and leave that only for future releases. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Furthermore, as funding has stalled, I figure, hey, I think what I've got here is a quality product but maybe I need to get it in front of some more eyes at this point. The funding is for polishing this thing up, after all, not for hiding what I've already written. If you're interested in that sort of thing, or you know someone who is, I'm putting up a few Community Copies of the game and I will continue to do so as more and more people contribute to the cause!
