Skills Alpha Preview


I just wanted to get a quick update in, the formatting is in a rough state*, but I wanted to give examples of how character creation is intended to work, how character Advancement is intended to work, and how Skills/Abilities work. I really like the idea of designing Lonvictus, if I can, based around the idea that characters don't really get "stronger" per se, and that anything can be killed by anything, but also that as you play the game, as your characters survive longer and overcome more obstacles, they do develop more in terms of their overall options. With Abilities, yes, there will be some stacking up in terms of vertical power growth, but these will always be limited. No more than a +3 bonus to rolls, only in certain circumstances; no more than, idk +12 to health, or something.

Lonvictus will very much be a game about finding new, cool loot. I'm already imagining, y'know, an Aegis Shield that lets you roll Defense vs Spells and has a Reflect Skill and maybe a Mageslayer Ability. That sort of stuff for "high level" play will be included in some way, probably as random treasure tables assigned to different regions.

Anyway, still free to download, I won't charge for anything until I've got all of the basic rules written up. Still a lot of work to do, but I hope you enjoy!

* Okay, wow, I did not realize the formatting looked nearly as bad as it actually does. I'm writing this up in Google docs and when exporting it out, it does not maintain the formatting at all. Let me test it out as a pdf**, and if that doesn't work, I'll have to just actually do formatting on this, because I was taking shortcuts with the columns and the map, and... phew! It's bad!

** Pdf fixes the horrible formatting problem, and looks much nicer. Sorry about that, I don't know what I was thinking exporting as an rtf. It will have proper formatting eventually, but this works for now.
